The Brief

A solid, well built kitchen that had simply dated. The layout worked, the cabinets were sound and there was no good reason to send any of it to a skip. What a kitchen like this needs is a change of colour and a finish that will stand up to daily family use, without the cost, mess and weeks of disruption that come with a full replacement. That is exactly the job respraying is made for.

What We Did

Our work included:

  • Surveyed the kitchen first: We looked over the units, the doors and the drawer fronts before quoting, so everyone knew what was being sprayed and what the finished result would look like.
  • Removed the doors and drawer fronts: These came back to our own dedicated workshop, where they could be prepared and sprayed properly in controlled conditions rather than in a busy family kitchen.
  • Prepared every surface by hand: Cleaning, degreasing and keying the surfaces is what makes the coating grip. This is the slow part of the job and it is the part that decides how long the finish lasts.
  • Sprayed the fixed elements in the home: The cabinet frames, end panels and plinths cannot be taken away, so those were masked off and sprayed on site to match the workshop sprayed doors exactly.
  • Applied a furniture grade coating: We use a professional furniture grade product with a specialist crosslinker that chemically hardens the finish, so it is built for the knocks a kitchen takes rather than being ordinary wall paint on a cupboard.
  • Rehung, aligned and handed over: Doors and drawer fronts were refitted and adjusted, and the owners were left with written aftercare guidance covering how to clean and look after the new finish.

The Result

The same kitchen, in the same place, looking like a different room. The dated oak has gone and in its place is a smooth, even, hard wearing finish across the doors, frames and panels. Because only the visible surfaces are sprayed, the cupboards never had to be emptied and the interiors were left untouched. The kitchen stayed usable each evening throughout, which matters a great deal when it is the room a household actually lives in.

Job Duration: Most kitchens we respray are complete within 5 working days, and this one ran to that pattern. The work is backed by our 2 year workmanship guarantee.
